An important aspect of the Gilbert Lake Management Plan, adopted by the Gilbert Lake Advancement Association in 2016, has been enhancing communication with our lake association members. In that regard, we added a Facebook page for sharing pictures, asking questions of one another, and posting items of a more social nature. The centerpiece of our communication strategy was developing a website With no previous experience in web development, I attended the 2016 Lakes Convention workshop “Building Websites for Lake Organizations.” The workshop was well organized, and it provided me with all of the tools to quickly and easily build and maintain a website. We are now able to share timely information with our members. We have posted a great deal of information about our Lake Management Plan, including information about such topics as shoreland restoration, water quality, and invasive species. Our “Members Only” page, which is password protected, includes minutes of our Annual Meetings, our budget, membership list, and our newsletters. When a tornado blasted across our lake in June, 2017, we were able to keep our members updated with the latest information.
