A new major version of WordPress—WordPress 7.0—is scheduled for release on April 9, 2026. As with any major update, we want to give you a clear sense of what is changing and whether it will affect how you manage your Lakekit websites.

What’s New in WordPress 7.0?

This release continues the evolution of WordPress’s block-based editing. Key improvements include:

An Enhanced Site Editor (Full Site Editing) — Improvements to templates, patterns, and global styles should make it easier to manage headers, footers, and layouts without code.

Performance Improvements — Backend optimizations should result in faster load times and a smoother editing experience for everyone.

Accessibility Enhancements — A new round of updates should improve usability for all users, including better keyboard navigation and screen reader support.

Developer & Plugin Framework Updates — Behind-the-scenes changes are further modernizing WordPress’s architecture, which helps plugin developers (like Elementor and Noptin) maintain compatibility and add features more efficiently.

What Does All of This Mean for Lakekit Users?

For most of you, the good news is that you are unlikely to notice anything major. Lakekit sites primarily rely on Elementor for page design. Because Elementor operates as a layer on top of WordPress, your existing pages, layouts, and designs should remain unchanged and day-to-day editing in Elementor will continue to function as usual.

Our Lakekit volunteer team will test the WordPress update across our platform after its release, ensure Elementor and other key plugins available on Lakekit remain fully compatible, and monitor our multisite. We will communicate any problems or unexpected issues to you proactively.

You may notice a few subtle differences, such as slight visual or interface updates within the WordPress dashboard, but no immediate action on part of Lakekit users is expected or required. Nonetheless, we recommend:

  1. Logging in after April 9 to confirm everything on your site looks as expected
  2. Letting us know if anything behaves unexpectedly

As always, our goal is to keep your sites stable, secure, and easy to manage. If you have any questions or notice anything unusual after the update, do not hesitate to reach out – the user forums is a great place to ask questions.

Best regards,
The Lakekit Team
